4. All Natural Toothpaste Recipe
Calcium carbonate powder is an abrasive. Xylitol adds sweetness, and some sources state it may help prevent tooth decay, but that hasn't been scientifically proven.
- 3 tablespoons calcium carbonate powder (not in citrate form, which will erode enamel)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons powdered xylitol
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 3 to 5 tablespoons coconut oil
- 30 or more drops peppermint essential oil, to taste
- 10 drops liquid trace minerals
- Combine calcium carbonate powder, xylitol, and baking soda, mixing thoroughly.
- Soften the coconut oil in a small container with the heat from your palms.
- Mix 3 tablespoons of the softened coconut oil into the combined powders. To achieve desired texture, add more coconut oil a little at a time. (The mixture will become firm as it sits and the peppermint oil and trace minerals will soften the mixture.)
- Mix in the peppermint essential oil and trace minerals.
- Transfer to a sealable glass container.
