Basic Ravensara Facts

Plant family: Lauraceae

Production: Steam distilled from the leaves of the tree. A ravensara bark oil is also available but generally not recommended for aromatherapy use because of high estragole content.

Aroma: Eucalyptus-like, slightly sweet and fruity.

Massage oil to relieve muscle aches and pains

  • 8 drops ravensara
  • 8 drops cypress essential oil
  • 8 drops sweet marjoram essential oil
  • 3 drops sandalwood essential oil
  • 3 drops neroli essential oil
  • 3 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon carrier oil

Blend oils. Massage as needed into painful areas.

Decongestant Inhalation Blend

  • 5 drops ravensara
  • 5 drops lemongrass essential oil
  • 5 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 4 drops lemon essential oil

Blend essential oils. Use 1 to 3 drops in a steam inhalation.

Base Formula: Ravensara can boost energy and to help relieve aching muscles, coughs and colds, and blemishes.

These two adapted blends are adapted from Base Formula:

Cough and Cold Diffuser Blend

  • 3 drops ravensara
  • 6 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 2 drops rosemary essential oil

Facial Oil for Blemished Skin

  • 5 tablespoons organic rosehip oil
  • 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons evening primrose oil
  • 6 drops ravensara  
  • 6 drops lavender essential oil
  • 12 drops tea tree essential oil

Blend all ingredients in a glass bottle. Spot test before using extensively. Apply to skin once or twice a day.

According to Shanti Dechen CCAP, CAI, LMT ("Autumn is Here: The Metal Element," NAHA Aromatherapy Journal, Autumn 2016.3, p. 18.), use ravensara essential oil to help relieve colds and flu, bronchitis, catarrh, earache, rhinitis, sinusitis, and throat infections. The oil can also help reduce joint pain, lymph congestion, fevers, fatigue, and muscle aches and pains.

Bath Blend

  • 2 drops Ravensara aromatica essential oil
  • 2 drops Eucalyptus radiata essential oil
  • 2 drops myrtle (Myrtus communis) essential oil
  • 1 teaspoon carrier oil

Blend the oils and stir them into the bath.
