Using essential oils for psoriasis can help you relieve the itchy, dry, red patches of this chronic skin condition in a natural, holistic way.
Two commonly recommended oils are Roman chamomile and tea tree. Blend either of those essential oils with a carrier oil and apply to your skin, spot testing first to make sure you don't have an adverse reaction.
If you have never used essential oils, start with a dilution of one drop essential oil in 10 drops carrier oil. You can then potentially make the blend as strong as 50/50.
The Essential Oils Desk Reference recommends the following aromatherapy blend for psoriasis relief:
Blend the essential oils with at least 8 drops of carrier oil (more if you tend to be sensitive or have never used these essential oils.) Spot test before applying the blend to a large area.
For symptom relief of psoriasis, The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils suggests:
Blend the essential oils into the vitamin E cream. Apply to your skin as needed.
To relieve stress that can worsen psoriasis, Massage & Aromatherapy: Simple Techniques to Use at Home suggest diffusing the following blend in an aromatherapy diffuser:
Another suggestion, from Healing With Aromatherapy, for a psoriasis flare-up is to drink two to three cups of licorice root decoction a day and use some of the decoction as a compress.
Caution: Do not use licorice root if you have high blood pressure.
To make a decoction, simmer one teaspoon licorice root in one cup of water for 20 minutes.
