How To Make Homemade Natural Shaving Cream WIth Essential Oils

Making your own natural shaving cream at home is an alternative to store-bought products, which can contain ingredients you want to avoid. Homemade shaving cream has a different consistency than the commercial version, so you may have to get use to it. Both men and women can use the following seven shaving cream recipes.

1. Rosemary-Mint Shaving Cream

For a brisk, uplifting scent.

  • 1/3 cup shea butter
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup jojoba or sweet almond oil
  • 10 drops rosemary essential oil
  • 3 to 5 drops peppermint essential oil
  1. Place the shea butter and coconut oil in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir the ingredients until just melted.
  2. Remove mixture from the heat and transfer to a heat-safe bowl.
  3. Stir in the jojoba oil and the essential oils.
  4. Place the bowl in the refrigerator and chill until the mixture is solid.
  5. Remove the bowl from the refrigerator and whip the mixture with a hand beater or electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  6. Spoon the shaving cream into a glass jar. Cover with a lid and store in a cool, dry place. Use as desired.

2. Eucalyptus-Peppermint Natural Shaving Cream

Eucalyptus gives this shave cream a congestion-clearing scent.

  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon jojoba or apricot oil
  • 15 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 5 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  1. Put the coconut oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil in a double boiler over low heat.
  2. Whisk the oils together until they become clear.
  3. Remove the oils from the heat.
  4. Whisk in essential oils and baking soda.
  5. Refrigerate the mixture until it is white and solid.
  6. Whip the mixture with a hand mixer until light and fluffy.
  7. Refrigerate the mixture for another hour.
  8. Whip the mixture again until it resembles heavy whipped cream.
  9. Spoon shaving cream into a glass jar.

3. Sandalwood Shaving Cream Recipe

Many men like the scent of sandalwood.

  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1/3 cup shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon unscented castile soap
  • 10 to 15 drops sandalwood essential oil
  1. Place the shea butter and coconut oil in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Whip with a mixer until well combined and it has fluffed up to almost triple it’s original amount (usually takes 3 to 5 minutes).
  3. Add the castile soap and essential oil. Whip again for 1 to 2 minutes or until well blended.
  4. Place shaving cream in a glass jar. Store covered. Use as desired.

4. DIY Natural Shaving Cream for Sensitive Skin

Try this shaving cream if you have sensitive skin.

  • 2/3 cup shea butter
  • 2/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup sweet almond oil
  • 1/4 cup baby unscented castile soap
  • A few drops Vitamin E oil
  • 20 drops lavender essential oil (men could use sandalwood)
  1. In a double boiler over low heat, melt the coconut oil and shea butter.
  2. Pour the mixture into a ceramic or glass bowl and place in refrigerator. Let mixture solidify.
  3. Remove from refrigerator.
  4. Add almond oil, castile soap, and lavender essential oil.
  5. Using a hand mixer, whip the mixture until fluffy.
  6. Put into a glass jar and use as needed for shaving.

5. Homemade Shaving Cream For Women

  • 2/3 cup organic unrefined shea butter
  • 2/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda (acts as an exfoliate)
  • 10 drops essential oil of your choice
  1. Place the shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil in a double boiler over medium low heat.
  2. Stir until melted. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in essential oil.
  4. Put the double boiler in the refrigerator for 2 to 4 hours and let the mixture begin to solidify.
  5. When the mixture is firm, remove it from the refrigerator.
  6. Use an electric mixer to whip the mixture for about a minute. The consistency will be like thin cupcake icing.
  7. Add the baking soda. Continue to whip for another 30 to 60 seconds.
  8. Scoop the cream into clean glass containers. Put on the lids and place the containers in the fridge over night.

Note: You can store the shaving cream at room temperature, unless it starts to melt, in which case put it in the refrigerator to resolidify.

6. DIY Natural Shaving Cream Recipe

  • 1/3 cup shea butter
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons olive, jojoba, or almond oil
  • 2 tablespoons liquid castile soap
  • a few drops essential oils of choice
  1. Place shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler and melt over low heat, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add olive oil and stir until fully blended.
  3. Remove mixture from heat.
  4. Pour it into a medium glass bowl. Place the bowl in the refrigerator until the mixture is solid.
  5. Remove from refrigerator.
  6. Whip the mixture, using a mixer, until fluffy (about 3 to 4 minutes).
  7. Whip in castile soap and essential oils.
  8. Place the shaving cream in a clean glass container that has a lid. Store in a cool, dry place.

  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 1/3 cup sweet almond oil or melted coconut oil
  • 10 drops essential oils of choice
  1. Place shea butter in a bowl. Whip it with a mixer.

  3. Add essential oils and whip again.
