An Easy Way to Make Aromatherapy Lotion
Aromatherapy is the art of using scent to enhance desired results mentally and/or physically. Studies show that certain fragrances have different effects on the brain, especially the limbic system. Aromas can be very powerful, and can do everything from invoke childhood memories to relieve stress or even boost energy. There are some essential oils and blends that are even considered an aphrodisiac. With so many benefits of aromatherapy, you might be interested in making your own scents or even aromatherapy lotion.
There are really three purposes for aromatherapy. First, you are getting the benefit of the aromatherapy itself. And secondly, you are getting the skin-softening benefits of the lotion. Finally, you also benefit from the act of massaging the lotion into the skin, which can relieve stress and encourage circulation. And, you can use different lotions for different intended purposes. For example, one day you might feel like a soothing fragrance and the next day you might need something to boost your energy. While buying a different aromatherapy lotion for every occasion can be costly, there is a cheap way to make your own.
Now you need to experiment with which oil or oils you want to use for fragrance. If you want to try a variety of essential oils or want to make your own fragrance blends, begin with a starter kit or assortment kit which are available online from a variety of vendors. Amazon sells a starter kit that is around $40 for 12 oils. Next, you need an unscented lotion. This can be found in large pump bottles in most any store that sells body lotion. While original unscented Lubriderm is a good choice, the generic version is just as good. Pump bottles are preferred and always make sure the lotion is unscented.
You can start with the whole bottle, or you can gegin with a variety of smaller size travel bottles to experiment with different scents. Simply pump some lotion into a small bottle then add a few drops of your desired scent or scents. You can make all kinds of little travel size bottles in different scents. They can be stored under your bathroom cabinet or anywhere that is dark and away from moisture and sunlight. While you can buy all kinds of aromatherapy lotions, making your own customized aromatherapy lotion can be a fun and rewarding project.
